It is a smoothly run project and as the result, a beautifully remodeled home. We bought this home in Summer 2010 and decided to do a significant internal update. We interviewed nearly ten general contractors and finally selected Mike based on his reasonable pricing, professionalism, good references, and most importantly, we felt that we can trust to give him this big job. It turned out that this was a wise choice. During the interviewing process, Mike provided us with a list of sub-contractors; all of them he had worked with before. He helped to clarify our requirements and to negotiate pricing. We picked most of the subs from this list. In the end all of them proved that they had good workmanship and high work-ethics. During the construction phase, Mike worked closely with us and with the sub-contractors to ensure the tasks were done smoothly. He gave us a schedule update at the beginning of each month. When our project ran into several unexpected obstacles, he kept us informed of the situations, suggested relevant solutions, listened to our opinion, planned and helped to resolve the problems. In spite of those surprises, our project was completed on schedule. After we moved in, Mike took care of several small unfinished items. He and the sub-contractors were very cooperative to help tying up the loose ends. We found in Mike a very competent general contractor. “The work, Mike Sakkestad, did in remodeling my SF kitchen was first-rate, professional and thorough, well within budget and time constraints/schedules. Actually, the work only took a 4-week period (elapsed time) excluding the time to pre-order cabinets and countertops. The period included tearing out the kitchen floor along with removing old appliances, and Mike's on-site presence and full day's work for 2 full weeks. Mike's expertise in carpentry was instrumental in assembling the oak cabinets. Electrical plans were also laid out and executed. I depended on Mike's expertise and advice when some issues came up and quickly got them resolved. In both scheduling and execution, Mike performed brilliantly. The tile work enhanced the kitchen 10- fold, and opened up an otherwise, small closet like space. Mike provided great support and guidance during all phases of the remodeling work as he managed all facets of the project. In preparation, Mike used the latest software technology available to provide a visual view of the new kitchen; complete with new pantry and countertop. The kitchen is no longer dark and dingy looking, it's now the center of attention. For a job of this scale and size, original estimates ranged all the way up to $60K. Fortunately, Mike provided reasonable rates and we were able to get it under $20K (including labor)!”

“Mike worked long and productive hours during a major remodel project of a house that my wife and I bought at 101 N. Duncan Ave. This project took place from October 2018 to March 2019. He was instrumental in the entire job, including hands on demolition, replacing rotted floor joists, rough framing two complete bathrooms, tile work and trim carpentry. He also helped with subcontractor final selection and answered any questions that they had. Mike and I worked together every day and I essentially became his helper. He would bring up suggestions and options to handle unforeseen issues that occurred on a number of occasions. I was impressed with his work ethic, his punctuality, his cleanliness, his attention to detail and conscientiousness. His integrity and ethics are notably impressive. After watching Mike Holmes of "Holmes on Homes" on TV in the Home Discovery Channel, I am convinced I have found a priceless jewel among general contractors. I met Michael Sakkestad in 1998, while I was a property manager for two townhouses and two other units in Capitola on Depot Hill. I interviewed a dozen or so general contractors. I had very special needs to be addressed and adhered to. They were as follows: that I would be on the job site daily-hour to hour, watching the quality and progress of the jobs needed while supplying all the materials that were needed. I would be there when all the city inspections would be made. I would be getting all the necessary permits myself. As you can see the demands were if nothing else intimidating and aggressive. Mr. Sakkestad's demeanor impressed me. He was courteous, understanding, and confident enough to hold his own educated opinions. After selecting him I was never sorry. The job lasted seven months from September 1998 to March 1999. On a number of occasions when I suggested doing something in "a short cut way" he explained respectfully why it wasn't done that way. On a number of occasions he brought in specialized sub-contractors, while overseeing their work for excellence. I was impressed. Needless to say, all inspections passed with flying colors, in fact the city inspectors remarked how all things were above and beyond what was expected; something I have heard Mike Homes say that he shoots for on all occasions, all the time-in other words excellence and not mediocrity. I learned a great deal from Michael Sakkestad, which has only been re-enforced after all these many years from watching Mike Holmes on "Holmes on Homes". After a minor accident which forced me to elevate my right leg and watch TV non-stop. By now you may be wondering what the other jobs were. In 2003 he remodeled a large bedroom into a family room and in June 2006, he remodeled my husband's office which he uses for his business.
